This is a new group of Kent Red Hatters and we want to go places and make visits. We are NOT just a lunch club and welcome members ideas for places to go and things to do.
We are a group of over 50s ladies from South East Kent who meet up for lunch once a month to plan outings to theatres, restaurants, attractions and other exciting events as suggested by members. We also plan to meet up with other Chapters of the Red Hatters group.
Live, Love, Laugh
Or – how to grow old disgracefully…
A few years ago, a lady named Jenny Joseph (1932-2018) wrote a poem called “Warning”. This poem starts off with:
“When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat that doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me”
This poem spurred a whole generation, and more, of women to confront getting older with gusto and not be grey and invisible.
Wherever you go, you may now see ladies around town sporting their purple outfits and their fabulous red hats, taking inspiration from the poem which is about embracing life and fun, rather than being held back by age, and what everyone expects an old lady to be and do.
The idea quickly spread and now there are chapters all over the world – including the UK, Europe, Australia, Canada, as well as the United States.
It is all about fun and friendship and it seems that all ladies just want to have fun.
